Imported equipment for sleeper factory, batching plant arrives
The Standard Guage Railway (SGR) project early works are progressing well with building of the construction camps and the sleeper factory set to be completed by April 2025.
Several related construction activities under the Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) are taking shape at the facility in Iganga district paving the way for actual construction of the SGR later this year.
The LNTP signed between Government of Uganda and the Turkish firm Yapi Merkezi contracted to construct the Malaba- Kampala Eastern Route SGR provides for early works. These works include setting up of the construction camps, sleeper factory, batching plant among others at Euro 75m all in preparation for actual construction.
Yapi has sub-contracted two firms -SSL for Site Camp works and GTSIL for fencing works. Both firms are already on the ground.
Uganda is set to develop about 1,724KM of SGR in a phased manner starting with the Malaba- Kampala Eastern Route.
